Letters
Letters home are part of going to camp. But the letters we receive from people who’ve been touched by Camp Ooch mean the most to us. Here are the words of the people who’ve visited us at Ooch and live every day in our hearts:
Dear “Camp Ooch” Staff
This summer Adam had his first ever camp experience thanks to the very special staff of Camp Ooch. For those of you who do not know Adam, he is a spirited, determined and energetic 14-year-old with Down Syndrome, Celiac Disease and Leukemia. The Leukemia was diagnosed last year and it has been a real life challenge for Adam and our family.
Thanks to your very empathetic and knowledgeable staff, Adam returned home from two weeks at camp looking wonderfully healthy and happy.
Graham and I have noticed great changes in his socialization skills, especially around mealtimes, his willingness to help, his keenness to participate in summer activities and best of all, his waterskiing abilities! Graham has spent six years trying to get Adam up on skiis with all kinds of innovative set ups. Adam arrived home eager to ski and after one false start he was UP! Adam was so happy and proud of his accomplishment and so are we!
Adam had a difficult year with chemo and required many hospitalizations. Thank you so much for giving him a chance to spread his wings. Your caring efforts and patience when working with Adam made his first camp experience a memorable one! The feeling of team spirit, fun and friendship that you and your staff are committed to is to be congratulated. Thank you also for supporting “new parents”. The idea that we could call and know how he was getting along helped to reassure us.
Sincerely,
Mr. & Mrs. Taylor
